Short answer · as of 28 Oct 2026
  • After the first 20 days of my newest affiliate blog, the money actually paid out was $0. One payout of about $75 is pending: a bank logged one business-account application with my partner code on 23 Oct 2026 and pays only after the account stays open for 30 days.
  • To get that one application I published 141 posts in 20 days (6–26 Oct 2026), at a pace of 6 articles a day. By the morning of 28 Oct 2026 the blog had 154.
  • Human traffic from server logs, 17–27 Oct 2026: 108 people in 11 days (between 3 and 18 a day), of whom 37 came from ChatGPT, and 8 human clicks on partner links.
  • Early on, affiliate marketing is a cost of time, not an income. I give no forecast, because one conversion cannot honestly be turned into one.

This is for you if you are deciding whether to start with affiliate marketing and want to see real numbers from the first weeks, not a screenshot of someone's "record month". I show the whole funnel of my newest affiliate blog: how many posts, how many people, how many clicks and how much money, including the money that has not arrived yet.

The blog is madrydochod.pl, a Polish site about bank offers and small-business finance that I launched on the evening of 6 Oct 2026. It is in Polish, but the mechanics are the same for a US or UK blog, and I am running the same model in English on tillradar.co.uk (UK, since 19 Oct 2026) and mainstreetradar.com (US, since 25 Oct 2026). I do not promise you will do better, worse or the same. I show what I did, what it cost and what came out of it by 28 Oct 2026.

How much can you make with affiliate marketing in the first 20 days?

In my case, the first 20 days of affiliate marketing produced $0 paid out and one conditional payout of about $75. The blog madrydochod.pl launched on 6 Oct 2026, had 141 posts by 26 Oct 2026, and the bank ING reported its first conversion on 23 Oct 2026. That $75 becomes due only once the customer keeps the account open for 30 days.

8human clicks on partner links in the same 11 days
1application with my partner code, 23 Oct 2026
$0paid out by 28 Oct 2026

I keep "earned" and "paid" apart on purpose. An affiliate payout has conditions: the customer must meet the program's requirements, the advertiser must approve the conversion, and then the payment cycle runs. Until all of that happens, the $75 is a line in a contract, not money in the company account.

Our numbers

On 23 Oct 2026 ING reported the first business-account application made with my partner code. The payout is about $75 after the account has stayed open for 30 days. Counting from the application date, that cannot happen before 22 Nov 2026, and the account may have been opened later than the application.

What does an affiliate marketing funnel look like from post to payout?

An affiliate funnel is the path from a published post to a paid payout, and at every step most people drop out. On madrydochod.pl in October 2026 it looked like this: 141 posts, 108 people in 11 days, 8 human clicks on partner links, 1 application and $0 paid. I measure every stage separately, because each one breaks for a different reason.

One thing in this table is not a clean funnel, and I will not dress it up. The application of 23 Oct 2026 came through a partner code, and a code works without a click on a link. So I do not know whether that customer was among my 108 people or my 8 clicks. The table shows what happened in the same period, not proof that one thing caused the other.

Here are the individual days. I list them because "about 10 people a day" sounds steady, while in practice traffic jumped between 3 and 18 people.

How much time does affiliate marketing cost before it makes anything?

Affiliate marketing at the start costs mostly time: in my case 141 posts in 20 days, at a pace of 6 new articles a day since my decision of 15 Oct 2026. I did not track the hours separately, so I do not give them. I track articles, and at this stage every one of them is an investment that has not returned anything yet.

If you do the accounting, it looks like this. I calculate on real numbers, but mostly the result shows how little a single conversion tells you:

  1. Pending revenue per post. About $75 divided by 141 posts is about $0.53 per article, on condition that the $75 is ever paid.
  2. Paid revenue per post. $0 divided by 141 posts is $0. That is the real return on the work as of 28 Oct 2026.
  3. Your time cost. Take your own hours per article and multiply by 141. If one article takes you 2 hours, that is 282 hours. That is what you put in before you see the first dollar.
  4. The conclusion. With one conversion, every average (per post, per person, per click) is chance, not a metric. A real rate per article can only be calculated once dozens of conversions have been settled.
Watch out

Do not multiply $75 by the number of weeks or by the number of posts you plan to write. One conversion in 20 days does not mean another one in the next 20 days. That kind of math is exactly the "earnings forecast" this site does not make, and it is also what the FTC and the UK advertising regulators treat as an earnings claim.

Why does affiliate marketing make so little at the start?

Affiliate marketing makes little at the start because a new blog first has to be noticed, and that takes longer than writing. On 8 Oct 2026, two days after launch, madrydochod.pl had zero traffic from Google, and on 15 Oct 2026 41% of its posts were still not in Google's index. A post that does not show up in results brings neither readers nor clicks.

Four measured things added up to this:

  • Indexing. On 15 Oct 2026, 41% of posts were not indexed. That is why I set a brake: if more than 40% of posts stay out of the index for 2 weeks, I slow down from 6 to 4 articles a day.
  • Bots instead of people. Before I built my own /go/ counter, an affiliate network showed 153 clicks on partner links while there was about one real reader. If you only look at the network dashboard, you see traffic that does not exist.
  • Payout delay. Even a valid application turns into money only after the conditions are met. In this program that is 30 days of the account staying open, plus the time to settle.
  • A small sample. 8 human clicks in 11 days is too few to tell which article sells. Since 20 Oct 2026 I have been testing two affiliate networks on one /go/ link with a 90-day cookie, and I will only see the result after weeks.

There is good news in the same logs: 37 of the 108 people (34%) came from ChatGPT before Google had fully indexed the blog. AI assistants can send a reader earlier than a search engine, but it is still a handful of people a day. How that happened is a separate article: How to get your site cited by ChatGPT.

What decides how much you can make with affiliate marketing?

How much you can make with affiliate marketing depends on human traffic, the reader's intent at the moment of reading, the program's terms and the payout cycle, not on the number of links you insert. On madrydochod.pl in October 2026, with about 10 people a day, the only variable I really controlled was the number and quality of articles; the advertiser set the rest.

What drives an affiliate result and what I control, on the example of madrydochod.pl, as of 28 Oct 2026
FactorWho decidesWhat I see
Human trafficSearch engines, AI assistants, time108 people in 11 days, from 3 to 18 a day
Reader intentThe topic I choose to write aboutOf the 8 clicks, 3 came from rankings, 2 from one offer page, 1 from a bank page, 1 from a category page and 1 from the homepage; none from a general guide

Payout termsAdvertiser and networkAbout $75 after 30 days of the account staying open
Approval of the conversionAdvertiser1 application reported, no payment yet
MeasurementMeOwn /go/ counter, because the network also counts bots

There is also the other side of the table. My hosting company Aderlo Cloud runs its own partner program, so I see affiliate payouts from the advertiser's seat too.

Its terms, as of Aug 2026: a partner gets 50% of a referred customer's first invoice and 20% of later invoices, paid in points (1 point is about $0.25 of net value), not in cash. In Aug 2026 Aderlo had 100 customers, 39 of them paying. Those are small numbers, and that is the point: most programs pay only when a real customer pays, so the advertiser's size and conversion rate cap what any affiliate can earn. If you want to look at the program, it is here: Aderlo Cloud partner program. It is not the best choice for a US or UK blog that writes about consumer topics, because it pays in service points rather than money.

What should you set up before counting your own affiliate earnings?

Before counting affiliate earnings, decide what you measure, how you label links and how you will report the income. Those three things decide whether your numbers are true and whether you are within the rules of the FTC in the US and the ASA in the UK. Below is the order I followed on madrydochod.pl in October 2026.

  1. Count people, not clicks in the network dashboard. Run your own redirect counter, or at least compare the network's numbers with your server logs. For me the gap was 153 network clicks against about one real reader.
  2. Keep earned and paid apart. In your spreadsheet, track applications, approvals and payments in separate columns. Only the last column is income.
  3. Disclose next to the link, in plain words. The FTC's endorsement guidance says to disclose the relationship clearly and close to the recommendation; it gives "I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post" as an example and says "affiliate link" alone may not be understood. The ASA's guidance (22 Mar 2023) says affiliate content must be obviously identifiable, suggests "Ad", and found a standalone "affiliate" label and bottom-of-post disclaimers insufficient.
  4. Know how the income is taxed before the first payout. In the US the IRS says you file Schedule SE if your net earnings from self-employment were $400 or more (page updated 27 Jun 2026). In the UK, trading income above the trading allowance means registering for Self Assessment (GOV.UK). My income goes to my company, JG INVEST P.S.A. If you are not sure, ask a tax professional or the tax authority, and report every dollar.
  5. Set a review date instead of a forecast. I judge the blog on settled conversions and indexing, not on the first weeks. Until then, the only certain cost is your time.
For US and UK readers

The networks madrydochod.pl uses are Polish and are not an option for you. The lesson that travels is the funnel and the measurement. My English test sites, tillradar.co.uk and mainstreetradar.com, are 9 and 3 days old as of 28 Oct 2026; I will publish their funnels in the same format once there is something to count.

More articles with numbers from my own accounts are in the Affiliate marketing topic, and the fleet's live traffic is on the counter. If you want the reason behind publishing weak numbers, it is in the manifesto.

Frequently asked questions

How much can you make with affiliate marketing in your first month?

There is no honest single figure. After 20 days I had $0 paid out and about $75 pending from one application, with 141 posts and about 10 people a day. Your result depends on traffic, topic and program terms, so treat my numbers as a description, not a forecast.

Is the pending $75 already income?

Not yet. On 23 Oct 2026 the bank reported an application made with my partner code, but the payout is due only after the customer keeps the account open for 30 days. By 28 Oct 2026 nothing had been paid, so I record it as conditional.

How many posts do you need before affiliate marketing pays?

There is no such number. My first conversion came on 23 Oct 2026, 17 days after launch, but it came through a partner code, so I do not know which post brought it. Whether Google and AI assistants show your posts at all matters more than the count.

Why does my affiliate dashboard show more clicks than I have readers?

Because networks also count bots that open links. One network showed me 153 clicks with about one real reader, so I built my own /go/ counter that counts only people. Between 17 and 27 Oct 2026 it recorded 8 human clicks.

Do I have to disclose affiliate links in the US and UK?

Yes. The FTC asks for a clear disclosure close to the recommendation, in words readers understand. The UK ASA says affiliate content must be obviously identifiable as marketing and suggests labels such as "Ad"; a lone "affiliate" label or a note at the bottom of the post has been ruled insufficient.

    Why?

Under posts about affiliate marketing, everyone would like to drop their own link, and real questions would drown in ads. We also don't want to pick whose link is "better". On top of that, the terms of many partner programs and affiliate networks forbid posting links in other people's comment sections. Break that rule and a network can close your account, commissions included.
